About

Our barbell club is a dedicated strength training program with an emphasis on the olympic lifts.  We meet 3x/week, providing specialized programming for all athletic levels. Programming on the blog will be different for advanced athletes and for beginner/intermediate athletes.

Advanced Programming: Monday & Wednesday at 7PM, Saturday at11AM
Athletes will follow various training cycles with varying emphases (leg strength, pulling strength, etc.) accompanied by technique work to supplement the olympic lifts.  The programming for these cycles will come directly from Catalyst Athletics.  Portions of these cycles will have a larger emphasis on the full lifts (snatch and clean & jerk).  Cycles will be described on the blog.  Please be aware that strength training and skill work is progressive--If you are an advanced athlete and want to get stronger and better at the olympic lifts you need to attend barbell club 3x/week.  You should also understand that to get the most out of this training, you should not be doing metcons more than 2x/week.  The metcons you do should be short (5-10 minutes) and serve to compliment your strength training, not inhibit it.  We recommend that you attend the Tuesday and Thursday WOD classes and rest on Friday and Sunday.  The WOD classes on T/R will be specifically designed to compliment your training in barbell club.  Am I an advanced athlete? If you are interested in following the advanced programming, you will need to speak to Tim or Maggie.  We need to know you have the appropriate background to do this programming safely and effectively.

Beginner: Monday & Wednesday at 7PM
Training for beginner/intermediate athletes will have a larger emphasis on technique and position.  Each training session, we will review technique and work on accessory lifts to help you better understand the positions of the full lifts.  Beginner/intermediate programming will also be progressive.  If you have a genuine interest in improving your olympic lifts, plan to attend this class 2x/week  We recommend that you continue to do WOD classes as often as you like (making sure to get 1-2 rest days in per week).  Any/everyone with the appropriate membership is welcome to attend this class-no special permissions required.
